SUDBOURNE ACHIEVE LPSFL TREBLE 9TH JULY 2011
The game proved to be as good as expected between two championship teams which had been noted through the season for playing a skilful passing style of football with individuals capable of turning on the style.
The first half was dominated by Cabrini who attacked incessantly but could not fashion clear cut chances against a Sudbourne side clearly determined to defend for their lives. The second half saw Sudbourne impose themselves more as an attacking force using their fast skillful wingers to exert pressure on Cabrini. Neither side could quite manage the goal to break the deadlock although Cabrini hit the bar and Sudbourne had a couple of one on ones in the Cabrini penalty area.
Extra time came and went with both teams defending strongly. The game became end to end with the flair players on either side doing their utmost to fashion goals but without success. Goalkeepers on both sides were made to work hard hard and demonstrate their shot stopping and handling skills.
Extra time ended with the schools locked at 0-0 and in the tradition of English schools football the cup is shared and the terrible tension of a penalty shoot out avoided.
The South London Schools FA Secretary Steve Underwood who presented the 86 year old silver Magazine Cup to both captains told the players and their supporters that both teams had done their schools proud and after such an intense effort from both sides sharing the cup was a great honour for all concerned.
